Powder metallurgy (P/M) parts are neither cast nor wrought - they are shaped directly from powders through the P/M process.

NetShape's expertise and versatility in the P/M and MIM processes and technology gives them many alloys with which to work, resulting in increasingly strong components. We redesign parts to fit the P/M process, and our customers realize considerable savings solutions as a result.

Only minor - if any - machining is required. P/M parts also may be sized for closer dimensional control and/or repressed for higher density and strength.

Our dynamic combination of industry-leading facilities is able to produce a wide range of products from small precise components to large structural parts. NetShape Technologies has compacting presses that range from 20 to 3,000 tons producing some of the largest powder metal parts in the world, and our powder metal technology permits the manufacture of complex components with specific performance characteristics and close dimensional tolerances that would be impractical to produce using conventional metalworking processes.

VALUE-ADDED SERVICES

NetShape Technologies has industrialized a wide array of value-added services to meet our customers' specific and ever changing requirements. These are but a few examples of how we help customers improve design cycles, reduce cost, speed time-to-market and manage inventory.

Conversioneering™

Utilizing a comprehensive, engineered, step-by-step process, NetShape Technologies can help convert existing manufactured components to either powder metal or metal injection molding technology, often times saving between 10-50% over other processing technologies without sacrificing performance. NetShape Technologies combines metallurgical/product design engineering science with state-of-the-art computer aided modeling/design packages to deliver a cost effective technology solution that exceeds customers’ requirements.

Secondary Processes

NetShape Technologies offers a full range of secondary processing Capabilities so that components are delivered meeting final specifications. Secondary processes include sizing, coining, CNC machining, CNC turning, ID/OD grinding, surface grinding, plating, drilling, and tapping.

Assembly

NetShape Technologies offers a variety of customized assembly solutions utilizing various commodities to provide customers with greater manufacturing efficiency.

Supply Chain Management

NetShape Technologies helps customers improve ROI by employing proven forecasting, JIT and managed inventory programs to their products.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Low Cost

Did you know that the average NetShape Technologies customer saves 25-50% over machined bar stock? Our manufacturing process greatly reduces - if not eliminates - the need for expensive secondary Capabilities. We also lower your costs by reducing the amount of waste produced when compared to other manufacturing methods, so your investment goes toward actual product.

Cost-Effective Tooling

In most cases, our tooling has a lifetime replacement. NetShape's tooling is less complex than competing processes.
Environmentally friendly

NetShape's powder metal process is good for the environment because scrap is minimized. Volatiles that are present in other competing processes are eliminated.
Part-to-Part Uniformity

NetShape's robust powder metal or MIM processes coupled with our six sigma manufacturing philosophy produces extremely consistent parts each and every time. For example, because P/M uses a single forming mold to manufacture each part, gear teeth are identical from the first to the last part.

Close Tolerances

NetShape Technologies has the ability to meet tolerances of down to +/-0.001". These tight tolerances avoid costly secondary machining Capabilities, therefore reducing costs and decreasing delivery time.

High-Performance Material Alloy Choices

NetShape's parts can be manufactured with special alloys and high temperature sintered or sinter hardened for ultra-high strength and durability. Tested under the most severe operating conditions, your parts will exceed the demands of your application while maintaining the defined specifications. For example, our sintered hardened backing plates have an ultimate tensile strength to 100,000 psi while maintaining desired flatness tolerances.

Complex Shapes

The nature of NetShape's state of the art processes facilitate the forming of multi-level parts with intricate curves and geometries for the most demanding of applications.

High Strength/High Density

NetShape's newly developed manufacturing processes push the envelope for your strength and durability needs.

Flexible Production Volumes

NetShape Technologies supports customer production runs from thousands of parts per year to the millions. Quick changeovers allow for agile Capabilities and cost-effectiveness.

Speed to Market

A proven new product introduction process, coupled with advanced engineering and mechanical modeling techniques, delivers optimal product launch success. Due to the nature of P/M and MIM tooling, procurement times are shorter than competing processes.

Reduced Part Weight

The reduced weight of our components gives you an overall lighter product, improving fuel consumption and operating efficiencies while lowering your shipping costs.

Self-lubrication

The inherent properties of powder metal have unique advantages, such as self-lubrication via oil impregnation, offering you longer product life and low maintenance systems.
